Turning a Mattress

Turning a mattress is a task done to improve the lifespan of a mattress.

This is done by taking the mattress off the bed completely, turning it head to toe, turning the mattress over, and then repeating the head to toe turn.

By sleeping on alternate sides, this prevents wear to one particular area, and allows the fillings to settle more evenly.

Method

Below is a video which shows the recommended way to turn a mattress.

Frequency

It is recommended that a new mattress is turned once a week for the first two or three months, then monthly thereafter. This does not apply to no-turn mattresses.

One Sided Mattresses

No Turn Mattresses only have one sleeping surface, and so need only to be rotated regularly, not turned.

Memory Foam, Latex and Pillow Top Mattresses are all non-turn, as the top layer of filling will be in one side of the mattress only.
